About the show "Holland V"

Holland V was produced in 2003 as part of MediaCorp's 40-year celebrations. The show, spanning 125 episodes, is about the Mo family and their friends in Holland Village.

The show was so well recieved by the viewers that it won seven awards at MediaCorp's award ceremony Star Awards 2003. These include Xie Shaoguang (Best Actor), Chen Liping (Best Actress), Huang Yiliang (Best Supporting Actor), Patricia Mok (Best Supporting Actress), Best Drama Serial and last but not least, Wang Yu (Young Talent Award). (Don't forget that this is a Wang Yu fansite!) In fact (few know this) Holland V was supposed to be 100 episodes, but due to popular demand, MediaCorp increased the number of episodes to 125. The scriptwriters and cast must have gone crazy trying to quickly write and film 25 episodes in such a short period!

Wang Yu's character in Holland V

In Holland V Wang Yu played a girl named Zoe. Magaret Lee plays her mother Maggie.

Maggie is a loose woman with a very foul mouth and a terrible itch that she relieves by drinking. Once she had an affair with several men at once, including Tian Dahua (Huang Yiliang). Soon after, she gave birth to Zoe. Nonetheless, her character remains unchanged - with all her terrible habits and evil intentions, she is well known in Holland Village. She also dislikes Zoe, and often abandons her to be with a man named Alan (actor unknown). Maggie is also convinced that Dahua is Zoe's father (though later she discover's he isn't - more of this in The Plot) and when she is poor and has trouble taking care of Zoe, she tries to push Zoe to him.

Zoe was born with eyesight problems. As a result, Maggie treats her as a burden and frequently dislikes (and abuses) her. However, she is a bright and intelligent girl with a special talent in playing chess, and she often gambles by playing chess games, which helps her and her mother get their bread and butter. She also has many virtues lacking in her mother, such as the ability to tell right from wrong. When Maggie goes to jail for attempted arson (more about this in The Plot), Zoe is taken care of by the Mos, although she still clings to her mother.

Zoe and Maggie in the plot

Coming soon!

Maggie takes Zoe to the coffeeshop one day and leaves her alone while she goes to buy a drink. Zoe gets lost and falls into a drain (remember she has poor eyesight). She gradually gets to know the Mos and Sus, and becomes more familiar with Holland V.

On one occasion, Lingling and Maggie have a fight at Su Hao's (Mark Lee) store. Maggie is injured and goes to hospital. She leaves Zoe at the Mos' place and demands compensation for her injury. When Zoe lives with the Mos, they take a liking to her, especially Lingling (Patricia Mok) .

When Maggie runs into Tian Dahua, he tries to avoid her, as they recognize each other well, and he does not want to face her. This affects his life seriously, as he is running for Singapore government office! After he loses, Maggie runs into him and he cannot escape this time. Maggie forces him to acknowledge Zoe as his daughter.

After some time, Maggie begins to take advantage of the Mos' affection for Zoe. Firmly believing that Dahua is Zoe's father, Maggie tries to push custody of Zoe to the Mos. Once, on their way home, (not really 'home' as they don't have a real home!) Maggie tells Zoe that she will have a better life with the Mos. Convinced that her mother does not want her anymore, Zoe runs off to cry in a corner. When Maggie cannot find Zoe, she leaves her there.

Zoe wanders around and loses her way again. Lin Jingcai (Huang Wenyong) finds her sleeping in his stall, and wakes her up. When he challenges a 'Chess King' and loses, Zoe helps him win. Later, the 'Chess King' returns to beat Zoe up and reclaim the money she won from her victory (Jingcai betted a few hundred dollars that he'd win, and later gave Zoe some of the winnings.) Jingcai (who is an expert on the Eagle Claws gongfu skill) teaches Zoe his Eagle Claws skill and she regains her money by beating up the 'Chess King' with her newly-learnt gongfu.

After some time, after a fling with Alan, Maggie returns to reclaim Zoe.
